What is Digital TV?

DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) is new digital television broadcasting system. It will replace the current analog tv-system which is still widely in use.

What does the average television user advantages from this new digital system?

It provides better quality, brighter image and cleaner sound. Interference in digital broadcasting is minimal because radio signal reflection doesn´t affect it. System also removes that unpleasant "ghost-image" effect which appears sometimes with the analog technique.

DVB offers Electronic Program Guide (EPG) which is very useful compared to analog system's teletext. EPG provides real time information about current programs on every channel. Program information is more detailed than in traditional teletext.

Image ratio is different compared to analogue broadcast because DVB uses ratio of 16:9 instead of 4:3. Ratio of 16:9 is called widescreen. To view DVB programs viewers needs to replace their old analog receivers with the new digital receiver.

With DVB technique television companies can offer more channels to viewers. This is because digital signal uses less bandwidth than anolog signal. There will be more and more channels that are focused on the one specific category.

Above all digital video broadcasting provides interactivity between tv viewers and broadcasters. This makes possible to have different kinds of game shows where tv viewers can participate instantly through their tv set.
